Lawson Inada leads 10,000 poem challenge [US]:
Oct. 12 is the deadline to turn in poems for the National Steinbeck Center’s "10,000 Poems Project." Since it began in October 2005, a total of 8,150 have been collected. The project aims to collect 10,000 poems in hopes of breaking the record for the largest collection of poetry.

Great idea, though not sure if 10,000 poems will actually constitute a record. Off the top of my head, Poets Against the War gathered some 15,000 poems between late January and early March 2003, and they have at least 20,000 poems posted on their website by now.

Not to take anything away from the 10,000 poem project -- I'm in favor of anything that gets people enthusiastic about poetry. Thanks for posting the link.
