"I recently had the privilege of being one of eight judges for a poetry manuscript contest. The process involved the group of us, poets and poetry lovers, spending a day reading book-length manuscripts, discussing them, and finally winnowing a stack of about eighteen manuscripts..."

The Secret Life of Poems:
What exactly are poems? And what are they good for? In the 20th century the pre-eminent poetic mode was the lyric, and so poems, generally speaking, were short, explosive devices. Many famous longer poems were written then, too -- William Carlos Williams's Paterson and Ezra Pound's Cantos, for example. Yet neither of these was entirely successful because, in part, they seemed to be occupying some uneasy middle ground between a kind of writing that was embedded in myth, and something more akin to fiction.

Judging the Bridport Prize: Poetry Report by Don Paterson [UK]:
"I'm making my final cut in the bar of a very large boat, in the North Channel of the Irish Sea, in something the captain alleges is a 'light swell'. This thing seemed like the, uh, Titanic when we were in Belfast, but now feels like a rubber duck in a bathtub. The sea reduces everything to a cork, and there's a brutal democracy to all this that sits perfectly, I suppose, with the brutal anonymity of the Poetry Competition. Which is more than I can say for my breakfast."

warbler: a word and song zine:
"this is the blog of warbler, a quarterly publication with its first issue slated for release in JANUARY 2008. we love music, poetry, landscapes both natural and urban. we focus on art and writing that celebrates the transient, musical nature of the everyday."

Haiku Postcards:
"Haijin friends worldwide, you who travel and meet places and people and languages, wherever you are, let one of your thoughts become community for us all. Look for a postcard. Handwrite on the back, in clear writing, a simple haiku. May the time you spend in finding a postcard, the time you spend in writing a haiku, sitting on a big stone, under a pine-tree, at a coffee table, be a happy time."
