"Send us interviews with any poet who has something original to say, and who is doing mind-bending, crazy, and/or interesting things. Poets who don't currently have chapbooks or books are fine, and are highly encouraged as interviewees (despite what a lot of interviewers/publications seem to think, such poets also have something to say about themselves and their craft)."

Poet Laureate Andrew Motion will talk to psychoanalyst Denis Flynn about private thoughts and public expression. Why do we articulate personal ideas for the scrutiny of others? Do psychoanalysis and modern poetry share a paradoxical need to share the personal with a kind of public?Andrew Motion has been a professor of English, editor of Poetry Review and editorial director at Chatto & Windus. He now teaches creative writing at Royal Holloway, University of London. He was appointed Poet Laureate in 1999.

OUT THERE(GENRE: Creative Reporting)RHINO is looking for some lively accounts of what's happening Out There, beyond our isolated circles -- for a potential midsection of the magazine. There's always an Out There, an event, a place, or an idea we've not been exposed to. It may be a reading that renders a crowd breathless, a unique conversation in some obscure basement, a literary party so aglitter it puts a peculiar smile on your face, a happening at an artists' colony you can only recall as a dream, the ceremonious arrival of a foreign poet, etc. -- in other words, fabulously written pieces that are witness to -- something to do with poetry. Authors may be caught up in the thing encountered. The intent is to refresh and educate, break out of huddles and cocoons, bring in a piece of the outside -- however you define it -- whether it is wild, weird, foreign, profound, confounding, inspiring or just entertaining.

With this anthology, we hope to examine Little Red Riding Hood and how it comments on our society (as well as how it might have been told in different times or with different goals) from different perspectives in both fiction and poetry. Red can be told in a fairy tale style, or it can be a futuristic romance, hard science fiction, mystery, horror, urban fantasy, blank verse, or villanelle. Where you want to put it and how you want to tell it is entirely up to you. We ask only that the characters be recognizable (though not necessarily overt), and that the issues raised–of society, gender roles, sexuality, civilization, or any other you discover–are explored in your work.

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - A federal judge has ruled that compiling Dorothy Parker's poems was a far less original act than writing them. The editor of a book of uncollected work by the late author did not show enough "creativity" to claim copyright infringement from a near-identical set contained in a book released by Penguin Group (USA), U.S. District Judge John F. Keenan said Tuesday, contradicting a decision he made four years ago.

"I remember an American poet once savouring his poems so much he decided to read some of them twice."Michael Hartnett, who was a short man, once mistook an overhead projector's lamp for a microphone and spent a reading hunched over trying to speak into it, or so I've been told. On hearing some giggles he straightened up and asked indignantly what the audience thought was so funny."
